North America: The most European cultural parts:

The most European with the French in and around Montreal and Quebec.

If you include the Scottish descendants then Canada is the most European.

But remember some southern US states speak French and Creole, New Orleans.

There are more Irish in the Boston, Chicago and New York areas than all of Ireland and the UK.

Both the US and Canadian areas around the Great Lakes are Scandinavian.

Between the two World Wars the vote in the US to make German the first language was 52% against and 48% for it. People who have names ending in mann are of German origin and culture.

From the book the 11 Tribes of the US we have 5 above, so add English, Russian, Polish, Italian, Spanish(Latino) and Jewish.

How the British Queen unites the World: An excellent example for other leaders around the World to follow: Never letting the people or Government down:

The British Queen is an excellent example for other leaders around the World to follow. Never letting the people or Government down.

The last night of the Proms shows how the Queen unites the World with lots of flag waving and singing by people from Europe and around the World.

More Europeans applied to stay in the UK. About four times more than the British in Europe.

I would always raise a glass to toast the Queen. God bless her.

EU - What most people have failed to see: Independence will break the EU with Germany, France, Italy and Spain facing calls:

EU - What most people have failed to see

These are the problems facing the EU

Northern Italy would be happy to leave the South. But the actions by Spain against the Catalans has
discouraged them.
Change is still rumbling along. But the other two countries facing the same problem are Germany with
4 or 5 states, Bavaria being the richest and France with Normandy.
Both these countries have hard right parties gaining votes, people are upset with the immigrants and
the problems they are causing.

Organisation

European Council sets the EU’s priorities, made up of national and EU leaders. Most people

know the president, but not the others.

Presidency of the Council and since 2007. The Presidency is coordinated every 18 months by

three countries (a "triplet").

European Parliament formed with elected MEPs by European people. It spends half a week in

Brussels and the rest in Strasbourg. What a waste of money. Operating coverage by leading

newspapers, television and radio is minimal to non-existent.

The EU Commission promotes the interests of the EU. President proposed by the European

Council and based on the last European elections. Elected by the European Parliament on a

5 year mandate.

The alternative based on the votes by the Commissioners representing each member country.

This would save a fortune and remove the need for the other three bodies above. The President

can attend G8 and other similar events. The Commissioners should be the elected heads or

deputy heads of each member country.

From the right corner of my front room 3 off the 7 Hills around Edinburgh: Blackford Hill: Braid Hills: Pentland Hills, Regional Park: Scald Law at 579 m:

3 off the 7 Hills around Edinburgh?

From the right corner of my front room

If I can see the third set of hills on the right clearly it will be a good day.

But it's cold! It was freezing during the night and a heavy frost is still on the cars.

My home is in Edinburgh, Scotland and 10 minutes from Blackford Hill.

The first hill behind the trees is Blackford Hill and on the other side the Royal Observatory,

the other one is in Greenwich, London. With the Greenwich Mean Time Line in front of it on a hill.

Below the hill to the right is the Hermitage of Braid, a popular wooded area for dog walkers and kids.

At the left is the Craigmillar Golf Club. During my apprenticeship I worked on assembling the cards

for the Star Identification System. To be installed in the Observatory.

In the middle are the Braid Hills with Golf courses on either side. In my youth at 6 to 8 years old we used

to go and catch Tadpoles and keep them in a Goldfish Bowl under our parents bed. My mum got a shock

one day when a bit of fluth jumped across the floor towards her. After a minute to recover, looked under

the bed and found the Goldfish Bowl, a thick ear for me and my brother.

To the right at the back the two hills are part of the Pentland Hills Regional Park. With Scald Law peak at

579 m (1,900 ft). Growing up with and lived about 30 minutes from the bottom of these hills. With friends

and dogs after school and at weekends playing in these hills. Either helping farmers out doing odd jobs

for an egg each or being chased. In the woods found billy can and boiled the eggs and ate them with wild

onion. In a number of the streams coming off the Pentlands we caught Rainbow Trout and took them

home to eat.

We had to be careful around cattle with young bullocks and Highland Cattle. Over the years we gathered

lots of injured animals, birds (Crows, Ravens, Jackdaws, Sparrows, Finches and Robins), rabbits, hares,

foxes, hedgehogs, field mice, stoats and weasels. At Primary School the teacher Mrs Rae asked us to

bring a pet to school. I took a Raven and when the Deputy Head Master asked what it was and it pecked

him on the nose. Which earned me 6 of the best from his belt. Lots of laughter from the rest of the class.

Saving young cattle and sheep left us covered in mud and water. The dogs joined in and pushed us in

and then shook themselves over us. Luckily it rained on the way home and we were clean, but wet.

Since the farmers thought we knew every nook and cranny and wood in the hills. They pointed the finger

at us. This led us being netted by the police and accused of cattle, sheep, horse and pig stealing of about

200 animals over a weekend. None of us had a driving license. So after a night at the main Police Station

on the High Street in town we were let home.

Nearly every hill in Scotland is the result of volcanic activity from centuries past. The other 4 hills around

Edinburgh, East and West Craiglockhart, Corstorphine, Arthur Seat and the Crags and Calton Hill. It

makes Edinburgh the Athens of the North with its pillars. These hills form the annual 7 Hills Race and the

other race the 7 Reservoirs Race on the Pentland Hills.

The pandemic has stopped us from running in the Hills, since we would have 40+ runners and walkers

out on runs laid with flour, sawdust or pet bedding and running for 1 to 2 hours depending on the weather.

Looking forward to doing it again and enjoying the views over the town and surrounding countryside.

From watching “The Crown TV show”: Amazed at how many people think it is a true picture of the Royal family in the UK: Shows freedom to tell stories, express views.

From watching “The Crown TV show”

The Queen can technically dismiss the Prime Minister.

The Queen follows protocol and would not cause embarrassment to the UK.

Therefore if the Tory(Conservative) party wants a new leader, they will decide.

The new Leader will then present to her majesty for approval to form a Government.

This is freedom in action and in China or Russia the actors and TV company management and employee's would never be seen again.

How does Brexit affect UK Business Services: Switzerland has already offered the British workers permits and expect Germany and Austria to follow:

How does Brexit affect UK Business Services?

British workers permits to work

It won’t do much, Switzerland has already offered the British workers permits and expect Germany and

Austria to follow. That should be enough to push the others.

A lot of services can be done over the Internet, but some will require on-site visits. Equipment

maintenance is a good example.

Having worked and lived in Europe before the EU was formed. It is easy to discover the requirements.

Registering with the Tax Authorities is the most important one.

Below are the SIC codes that might apply to my projects. So translating these into the European

language to match each country helps registration.

Augmented Reality (AR) is a term you’ve probably heard bandied about by the media, business leaders and bonafide nerds. It sounds really complex. Highly technical. Futuristic. Does it really have a role in training?

Before we delve deeper into the role of AR in training, and the benefits of using it in your training programmes, it’s important to understand exactly what it is.

Not to be confused with its older sibling Virtual Reality (VR) and younger sibling Mixed Reality (MR), Augmented Reality is an interactive, reality-based display environment that uses computer-generated visuals, text, sound and effects to enhance a user’s real-world experience.

By combining computer-generated imagery and scenes, AR has the ability to provide a more unified and enhanced view of the world (a.k.a ‘reality’).

It definitely still sounds a bit futuristic, and slightly-if-not-highly technical. But, if you re-read that definition and let it sink in for a moment, you’ll already begin to envisage, and get a feel for, how AR can play a pivotal role in training.

Get Real

Virtual Reality (VR) is probably a technology or term that you’re more familiar with. It’s been around since the mid-1980s, and was once hailed as the future of things like film and gaming. But it hasn’t really lived up to the hype.

Whereas AR uses the real, physical world and adds to it (or ‘augments’ it), VR is a digital environment that completely shuts out the real world. It’s a complete immersion experience. Ironically, VR is an escape from reality.

You might have seen some examples online before, played a VR game, or been on a VR attraction at a themepark. Like the classic VR rollercoaster, where you put Star Wars-esque head and eye gear on and are taken on fake-real ride of a lifetime.

Mixed Reality (MR) combines elements of both Augmented and Virtual Reality, seamlessly integrating digital objects into the real world to make them look as if they’re really there: a hyper-realistic experience.

Why Augmented Reality?

At this point, it might be difficult to envisage what advantages of using AR might be, beyond super-realistic rollercoaster experiences. Or, more specifically, what the business advantages of AR might be.

But, when you consider the fact that businesses globally are now largely or entirely digitally-driven, and significantly or utterly reliant on technology, the business case for AR starts to become a bit clearer.

The global growth of investment in AR would certainly indicate that business leaders can tap into, and already are, a multitude of benefits.

In 2014, the AR market was worth a healthy-but-far-from-sensational $247 million (£197 million), according to Juniper Research. The market forecast for the end of this year? $2.4 billion (£1.9 billion) – an 817% increase in just five years.

Driving this impressive investment growth is no doubt the plethora of ‘pros’ that come with adopting AR technology, such as:

● Enhanced customer engagement and user experience

● Next-level interaction with customers and other external stakeholders, due to the increased level of involvement AR requires

● Highly personalised experiences and content

● Increase conversion rates and sales by breaking down barriers to purchase (Arno Sousa, a General Manager from Veeva Systems, has observed that early adopters in the life sciences industry, are using AR to explain complex medical concepts, treatments and products to customers).

● The greater degree of interactivity leads to better customer retention

● Improving the effectiveness of employee training initiatives.

As the title of this blog suggests, we’re particularly interested in exploring that last bullet point in more detail, and the role of AR in training.

Using AR in Training

You’d be forgiven for associating corporate training with more traditional training approaches and formats like Face-to-Face (F2F) and eLearning, rather than one of the most advanced technologies on the planet.

The reality is, though, that these training approaches and formats will continue to be the main foundations for training programmes. As its name suggests, Augmented Reality will simply enable trainers and teachers to build on – to augment – these foundations, enhancing the training experience and thus the programme’s effectiveness.

AR provides a unique proposition for both trainers and trainees: the ability to undergo immersive, real-life simulations before they’re faced with real-life situations. A ‘live’ experience… that isn’t properly live.

Similar, somewhat, to the way in which a pilot uses a flight simulator during training. Or, now, how medical students can ‘perform’ surgery without the risk of injuring real patients using AR technology.

But AR isn’t just beneficial for training in industries like aviation, or professions like medicine. Herein lies possibly its biggest benefit: its potential ubiquity in terms of application to different training formats, industries, sectors, and professions.

Other AR training benefits and uses include:

● Trainee Engagement: The fact that AR can inject next-level interaction and involvement can only lead to better engagement which, in turn, should lead to greater effectiveness and positive outcomes.

● Efficiency: Using AR as an aid, trainers can train more efficiently and trainees can learn quicker. A highly efficient training environment for all parties involved, saving both time and money.

● Risk Reduction: Whether it’s flying a Boeing 747, performing surgery, or learning to use a new piece of software, AR reduces the risk of mistakes or oversights because it provides a ‘real-world’ training environment.

● Continuous Improvement: Particularly useful for continuous improvement when AR is used for software and systems. AR can be implemented to guide users through certain processes, by using digital overlays for real-time guidance.

● Flexibility: Although Webinars and eLearning are already highly-flexible training formats, AR hardware can be used for remote training – negating the need for travel or on-site training sessions.

ARe you for real?

eLearning Industry highlights how AR is “quickly becoming an alternative technology for training programs”. When you consider the seemingly endless possibilities it can provide to both trainers and trainees, the notion that its adoption by the Learning & Development industry will rise rapidly in the next few years appears probable. A matter of “when” rather than “if”.

Whilst the future of AR and its role in training still not fully proven and mainstream, one absolute certainty is that the prospect of this type of technology being used in training is exciting.

AR has the potential to fundamentally change the way people teach, learn, and develop – all for the better.
