These are the problems facing the EU

Northern Italy would be happy to leave the South. But the actions by Spain against the Catalans has
discouraged them.

Change is still rumbling along. But the other two countries facing the same problem are Germany with
4 or 5 states, Bavaria being the richest and France with Normandy.

Both these countries have hard right parties gaining votes, people are upset with the immigrants and
the problems they are causing.

Organisation

European Council sets the EU’s priorities, made up of national and EU leaders. Most people

know the president, but not the others.

 

Presidency of the Council and since 2007. The Presidency is coordinated every 18 months by

three countries (a "triplet"). 

 

European Parliament formed with elected MEPs by European people. It spends half a week in

Brussels and the rest in Strasbourg. What a waste of money. Operating coverage by leading

newspapers, television and radio is minimal to non-existent.

 

The EU Commission promotes the interests of the EU. President proposed by the European

Council and based on the last European elections. Elected by the European Parliament on a

5 year mandate.

 

The alternative based on the votes by the Commissioners representing each member country.

This would save a fortune and remove the need for the other three bodies above. The President

can attend G8 and other similar events. The Commissioners should be the elected heads or

deputy heads of each member country.
