Kiva Microfinance Loan - Update from Mexico |

Ejido Verde in alliance with ejidos and forest, rural and Indigenous Communities, is a company dedicated to the sustainable production of pine resin with the goal of generate prosperity through the establishment and use of plantations resin forestry in the State of Michoacán. It is governed by the "Triple Impact" methodology, that is, considering three dimensions: economic, social and environmental. The work we carry out in Indigenous Communities of Michoacán, in particular in that of Cherán AtzicurÃn, adds to the global work we do: We currently have 4,280 hectares covered with commercial forest plantations of resin pine species, in which we estimate we have sequestred approximately 86,892 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. The year 2020 was an exceptional year without the establishment of new plantations and we dedicated it to the maintenance of existing plantations: We planted 955,859 trees and donated 776,068. Since the beginning of the project in 2011, we have planted about 8 million 650 thousand trees and donated more of a million of them, for other programs. Since 2011 we have generated alliances with 13 Indigenous Communities, Ejidos and a small property, for the establishment of plantations. These are found in 11 municipalities in the state of Michoacán and with the support of Ejido Verde, they improve their governance every day. Thanks to these alliances, 625 families improve their quality of life with the establishment of resin family gardens. In 2020 we generated part-time employment (at least for one day) for 1,199 people and 87 people worked full-time (at least 60% of the working days of the year). 66 women were employed part-time and 12 full-time. This same year we allocated 673 hours for the formal training of 63 workers. This year the experimental crops that we carry out to develop better and more income for the Communities with Pine Forest Plantations deserve particular attention. We experimented with coffee, perón hotpepper, beans, and agave. In this way, food is produced in less time and with better income for the Owners of the land.
